Chalgrove Cavaliers Football Club, affiliated to the Oxfordshire F.A. (registration number FYS00149), was established in the 1960s and provides footballing opportunities for boys and girls in Chalgrove and the local villages. There are currently seven boys teams and three girls teams – 150 children in total. An impressive number for a village with a population of 3,300. In 2007 Chalgrove Cavaliers became the first club in South Oxfordshire to be awarded Charter Standard Development Club status by the F.A. and was awarded The Crookston Shield in 2007 by Chalgrove Parish Council in recognition of its contribution to the community.

The Club began its application process to become a FA Charter Standard Development Club towards the end of 2005 and, as part of the improvements needed to meet the FA's requirements, we made a number of changes which has seen us become in the words of former Club Secretary Chris Leftley "not just another club, but a club with a difference."

As a Charter Development Club Chalgrove Cavaliers FC continues to follow this aim and is increasing local participation in football, the number of players having risen from 60 in 2005 to 150 in 2009.

At the 2007 Oxfordshire Football Association annual awards ceremony Chalgrove Cavaliers FC was officially named Charter Standard Club of the Year 2007.

When making the award we were praised the manner in which we have expanded the club whilst retaining our community roots. Our girls coaching programme came in for special praise as did our extensive charity work.

After receiving a cut glass trophy Gary Rees and James McGraw presented to the audience a short account of what goes on at a Charter Standard Development Club and how to reach the standards we have shown can be achieved when a community pulls together. We now aim to continue our progression over the coming years and move ever forward.

Chalgrove Cavaliers FC has achieved a number of notable honours in recent years, including:

Can girls play for Chalgrove Cavaliers?

Yes, subject to FA guidelines and age restrictions. Currently, the FA states that both boys and girls can play alongside each other in the following teams:Under 6, Under 7, Under 8, Under 9 and Under 10. Please also see our Equal Opportunities Policy.

How do I register a player for the 2009-10season?

Please download a Registration Form for the 2009-10 season from our website. Alternatively, please contact the appropriate team manager for a Registration Form.

How much is it to register a player?

Under 8 and above (boys) and Under 11 and above (girls)
Registration Fee for for 2009-10 is £70 per player

Under 7 (boys)
Registration Fee for for 2009-10 is £55 per player

Under 6 (boys) and Under 8 (girls)
Registration Fee for 2009-10 is £35 per player

Chalgrove Cavaliers Football Club accepts cheques (made payable to Chalgrove Cavaliers Football Club) or cash.

Why do players need to be registered?

Any player who wishes to train or play for Chalgrove Cavaliers must be registered with the club.As a responsible club it is necessary to ensure appropriate levels of insurance in case of any accidents or injuries - and such insurance is only valid for players officially registered with the club. Please also note that players competing in competitive league and cup matches will also be registered by the club with the Oxford Mail Boys League.

When are committee meetings held?

Chalgrove Cavaliers Football Club hold monthly committee meetings, usually at 8pm on the second Thursday of each month in The Red Lion. If parents/carers or players have any issues they would like raised at the committee meeting they should contact their team manager to raise the issue or send an e-mail to davec@chalgrovecavaliersfc.net.

When is the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held?

Chalgrove Cavaliers Football Club holds it Annual General Meeting (AGM) in May. The minutes for the AGM will be made available on the Club's website.

How can I volunteer to help the Club?

Chalgrove Cavaliers Football Club is responsible for setting standards and values to apply throughout the club at every level. Football belongs to and should be enjoyed by everyone, equally. Our commitment is to encourage parents/carers to volunteer to help in a number of ways.

Areas where volunteers are needed most include:·

Pre and post match setting up and dismantling of goalposts, corner flags etc·
Match reports·
Training sessions
Half time refreshments for players

Parents/carers interested in assisting with the above, or any other areas of the Club, should contact their team manager to discuss.

Who writes the match reports?

We welcome anyone to submit a match report but would ask that for safety reasons only children's surnames are used. Please e-mail your reports to info@chalgrovecavaliers.com

Does the Club accept Donations and Sponsorship?

Chalgrove Cavaliers Football Club is primarily funded through player registration subscriptions and social events organised by the Club during the year. From time to time Chalgrove Cavaliers Football Club receives grants from various grassroot football organizations. If you would like to donate money towards the club or if you are interested in providing sponsorship please contact the Club Secretary or your team manager.

What is Mini Soccer?

The principles and rules of Mini-Soccer are similar to those in Association Football, except that the pitches are smaller and there are fewer players on each team.The full principles and rules of Mini-Soccer are detailed on the Chalgrove Cavaliers website - click on the Handbook and Rules link.

What is the FA's Charter Standard Club programme?

Can any club apply?

Yes, any club which operates teams at Under 16 level and below.

Our Club only has 1 team; does that matter?

Even a club with only one team can apply to become a Charter Standard Club.

Is there a charge?

No, the Charter Standard programme is free.

Is it difficult to achieve?

Any award, worth having, does require an element of work. However, particularly for the Club award, the criteria has been set so it is attainable for every club.

What are the benefits?

The "visible" benefits are listed in the brochure. But it's the "hidden" benefits that should be of most importance to your club.

So what are these hidden benefits?

By achieving a Charter Standard Award, you are demonstrating to all members, Parents and the public, that you are a well organized & safe club. The 'hidden' benefits are also an excellent way of promoting your club to potential members, parents, volunteers and sponsors.

How do we apply and what happens to our application?

1. Clubs must complete an application form and return it to the County Football Association with the requested supporting evidence.

2. Screening forms must be enclosed and sealed in the envelope provided and returned to The Football Association.

3. The Football Association will formally screen the self-certification forms submitted.

4. The application will be assessed by the County Football Association nominated officer with recommendations to the Charter Standard Working Party.

5. The Charter Standard Committee will complete a feedback form on each application, which will include an Action Plan and a recommendation.

6. If the club meets the criteria, the County Football Association will forward the Feed Back Sheet to The Football Association for awarding.

7. If the club does not meet the criteria, the County will inform the Club and provide an action plan and assistance sheets.

8. The Football Association will:Write to the club awarding the Charter Standard, including a copy of the feedback form and action plan.

9. The Football Association and the County Football Association will keep a copy of the feedback form and action plan.

How long does the award last?

1. The Charter Standard is an award for three years.

2. Clubs must complete and return a "Renewal Form" every year that the Charter Standard is valid (within 30 days of receipt).

3. At the end of three years, the club can apply for renewal.

Can the award be withdrawn by The FA?

Yes. After due consideration, and the club has had the opportunity to meet with the Charter Standard Working Party, the Charter Standard Working Party can request that a Club has it's Charter Standard removed for the following reasons:

a) Disciplinary Record
b) Failure to Attend In-Service Training
c) Failure to return annual form

The Club can re-apply when it can demonstrate that it has responded positively to the reason(s) for withdrawal.

What are the Disciplinary reasons why a Club could lose, or not be awarded Charter Standard?

The Charter Standard Working Party will consider the following criteria when assessing new applications or the removal of Charter Standard.

1. Any Club found guilty of assault on a referee or assistant, by a player, official or spectator in the last three years will not be considered for the awards. Any subsequent offence would lead to the withdrawal of the award.

2. Any Club not found to be positively supporting The Football Association's anti-racism campaign will lose or will not be awarded Charter Standard.

3. Any Club found guilty of spectator misconduct on two occasions by The Football Association will be invited to meet with the Charter Standard Committee who have the authority to issue a formal warning, which could lead to removal on further notice.

4. Any club found guilty of official misconduct on two occasions by The Football Association will be invited to meet with the Charter Standard Committee who have the authority to issue a formal warning, which could lead to removal on further notice.

5. Any club that reaches * disciplinary points (as described in County F.A. Memorandum), will be invited to meet with the Charter Standard Committee, who will have the authority to warn as to future conduct or request that The Football Association remove the Charter Standard Award.

6. If any one team reach * disciplinary points (as described in County FA Memorandum), will be invited to meet with the Charter Standard Committee, who will have the authority to warn as to future conduct, or request that The Football Association remove the Charter Standard from the whole club.

* At present each county sets its own points level, after which time clubs are in breach of County FA memorandum

What is the Club's Equal Opportunities Policy?

Chalgrove Cavaliers Football Club is committed to a policy of equal treatment of all members and requires all members of whatever level or authority, to abide and adhere to this general principle and the requirements of the Codes of Practice issued by the Equal Opportunities Commission and Commission for Racial Equality.All members are expected to abide by the requirements of the Race Relations Act 1976, Sex Discrimination Act 1986 and Disability Discrimination Act 1995.

Specifically discrimination is prohibited by:

Thus, in all the Club's recruitment, selection, promotion and training processes, as well as disciplinary matters, it is essential that merit, experience, skills and temperament are considered as objectively as possible.Chalgrove Cavaliers Football Club commits itself to the immediate investigation of any claims of discrimination on the above grounds and where such is found to be the case, a requirement that the practice cease forthwith, restitution of damage or loss (if necessary) and to the investigation of any member accused of discrimination.Any member found guilty of discrimination will be instructed to desist forthwith.

Since discrimination in its many forms is against Chalgrove Cavaliers Football Club's policy, any members offending will be dealt with under the disciplinary procedure.Chalgrove Cavaliers Football Club commits itself to the disabled person whenever possible and will treat such members, in aspects of their recruitment and membership, in exactly the same manner as other members. The difficulties of their disablement permitting assistance will be given, wherever possible to ensure that disabled members are helped in gaining access. Appropriate training will be made to such members who request it.

What is the Club's Child Protection Policy?

Chalgrove Cavaliers Football Club acknowledges its responsibility to safeguard the welfare of every child and young person who has been entrusted to its care and is committed to working to provide a safe environment for all members. A child or young person is anyone under the age of 18 engaged in any club football activity.

We subscribe to The Football Association's child protection and best practice policy and procedures and endorse and adopt the policy statement contained in that document.

The key principles of The FA child protection policy are that:

· The child's welfare is, and must always be, the paramount consideration

· All children and young people have a right to be protected from abuse regardless of their age, gender, disability, culture, language, racial origin, religious beliefs or sexual orientation

· All suspicions and allegations of abuse will be taken seriously and responded to swiftly and appropriately

· Working in partnership with other organisations, children and young people and their parents or carers is essential.

We acknowledge that every child or young person who plays or participates in football should be able to take part in an enjoyable and safe environment and be protected from poor practice and abuse. Chalgrove Cavaliers Football Club recognises that this is the responsibility of every adult involved in our club.

Chalgrove Cavaliers Football Club has a role to play in safeguarding the welfare of all children and young people by protecting them from physical, sexual or emotional harm and from neglect or bullying. It is noted and accepted that The Football Association's child protection regulation (see The FA Handbook) applies to everyone in football whether in a paid or voluntary capacity. This includes those who are a volunteer, match official, helper on club tours, football coach, club official or medical staff.Our Child Protection Policy can be viewed in full in our Club Handbook.

What is the Club's Complaints Procedure?

In the event that any member feels that he or she has suffered discrimination in any way, or that Chalgrove Cavaliers Football Club's Policies, Rules or Code of Conduct have been broken, should follow the procedures below.

1. They should report the matter to the Chalgrove Cavaliers Football Club Secretary or another member of the Committee. · Your report should include:

· Details of what, when, and where the occurrence took place.

· Any witness statement and names.· Names of any others who have been treated in a similar way.

· Details of any former complaints made about the incident, date, when and to whom made.

· A preference for a solution to the incident.

2. The Chalgrove Cavaliers Football Club's Management Committee will sit for any hearings that are requested.

3. The Chalgrove Cavaliers Football Club's Management Committee will have the power to:

· Warn as to future conduct
· Suspend from membership
· Remove from membership any person found to have broken the Chalgrove Cavaliers Football Club's Policies or Codes of Conduct.

Exit Benson on the B4009 heading towards Watlington. Once out of Benson take the third turning on the left at the signpost for Chalgrove (4 miles). Continue straight along the road for a couple of miles and turn right at the T-junction at the end of the road. Follow road (do not turn left on to Mill Lane) and keep going straight on into Chalgrove village. Follow the road as it curves to the left and drive on to High Street. Continue along High Street.

For Frogmore pitch: Continue along High Street driving past Baronshurst Drive (second turn on your left). Stay on High Street and turn left immediately after the school (but immediately before The Crown Pub) and park in the car park. Frogmore is accessed via gate at far right of car park.

For Recreation Ground and Upper Field: Take second turning left off High Street into Baronshurst Drive. Parking is available in the Village Hall car park, which is 100 yards ahead of you on the right. The Upper Field pitch is beyond the recreation ground's swing park area.
